1333 N 3rd, Abilene, TX

On December 17, 1881 the First Baptist Church of Abilene was founded just shortly after the town of Abilene was started.  130+ years later, the church is still as strong and vital to the downtown area as it was in 1881.  Dr. Phil Christopher currently serves as the 19th pastor of the church and he has been in that capacity since 1995.  The church has started 19 different missions and helped start Hardin-Simmons University and Hendrick Medical Center.

Currently the church has a fully licensed daycare, God’s Little Ones; a counseling center; a family life center; and City Light Community Ministries which serves as a local mission point to the homeless and those in need in the downtown area and the community as a whole.

First Baptist Church was founded on the core beliefs that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  We are guided by the Holy Spirit and rely on the Bible as the basis of our beliefs and as a guide for daily living.  We continue to use the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message as far as a document that we would support.  We affirm all of God’s people as His ministers and understand the servant role of deacon as one that does not have gender barriers.  Believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the two ordinances that we participate in as a body of faith.

If you are a first time visitor, we would suggest that start your journey with us by coming to Bible study at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.  We have classes for all ages and folks ready at each entrance to guide you to your destination.  In the Welcome Center, you will find more information and help is available.

Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  A nursery is provided for children 4 years and younger.

We also have activities for the entire family on Wednesday nights beginning with supper from 5-6 p.m. Supper is followed at 6-7:30 p.m. by music and missions for the children, Bible study for the youth, spiritual formation classes for adults which include GriefShare, DivorceCare, Single Parenting, and classes for spiritual growth.
